What has the internet done for us?

According to the Huffington Post, amongst the amazing things the internet has given us are funny cat videos, Facebook stalking and dubious hashtags. It’s taken control of dating, shopping, TV and banking amongst other aspects of everyday life that previously required pieces of paper or even going outside. Coming from a somewhat more serious standpoint, JBi Digital claims it has created ‘Online Democracy’ – giving everyone with access a change to establish their voice and contribute in a free exchange of ideas, however controversial. To give just one example, the Iranian revolution in 2009 grew rapidly thanks to social networking, particularly Twitter. In general, the internet has opened our eyes to truths (and potentially some untruths) about the world we live in.

American Express has compiled a list of the most influential websites of all time, which includes:

Google

Facebook

Ebay

YouTube

Amazon

Twitter

Apple

Microsoft

Linked-in

Yahoo

We’re taking our bets on the sites that will be added to this list in the future…
